Ultrasound device for horses, dogs and cats
Ultrasound therapy is an effective treatment method for a wide variety of veterinary conditions. The UltrasoundVet 4000 is a high-quality ultrasound device specifically designed for the treatment of dogs, cats, and horses .
Ultrasound therapy involves thermal and non-thermal mechanical stimulation of the treated tissue. These effects of ultrasound treatment can accelerate the healing of injured tissue in muscles, tendons, joint capsules, ligaments, and bone tissue.
Properties of ultrasound therapy
- Effective for the treatment of tendon, muscle and ligament pathologies
- Also applicable for scars and joint stiffness
- Deep thermal effect
- Non-thermal and anti-inflammatory effect
- Thermal and athermal therapeutic mechanical stimulation
- Improves the healing of damaged tissue
Therapeutic effects of ultrasound therapy in veterinary medicine
Ultrasound therapy has a number of therapeutic effects that can help improve the healing of damaged tissue. These include:
- Cell metabolism: Ultrasound therapy promotes cell metabolism and relative enzymatic activity, leading to faster healing.
- Blood flow: Ultrasound therapy accelerates blood flow, which improves the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the damaged tissue.
- Tissue elasticity: Ultrasound therapy increases tissue elasticity and its viscoelastic properties, leading to improved mobility while reducing pain sensation.
- Pain reduction: Ultrasound therapy can reduce pain sensation, improving the animal's freedom of movement and comfort.
Thermal effects of ultrasound therapy
The thermal effect of ultrasound increases tissue temperature and promotes blood flow. This can be used to treat some chronic injuries or soft tissue conditions.
Non-thermal effects of ultrasound therapy
The non-thermal biological effects of ultrasound therapy include accelerating healing processes, promoting soft tissue regeneration and cell protein synthesis, reducing edema, improving bone healing, and reducing muscle spasms and pain.
Ultrasound device for animals UltrasoundVet 4000
The UltrasoundVet 4000 portable ultrasound system for animals can also be battery-operated with separately available accessories . With the numerous pre-installed treatment protocols in the UltrasoundVet 4000 ultrasound system , veterinarians can treat joint, muscle, and tendon disorders in small animals and horses, as well as scar tissue and stiffness in dogs, cats, and horses. A smaller 16 mm ultrasound probe is also available for treating smaller areas.
General information on using the UltrasoundVet 4000 for animals
The UltrasoundVet 4000 ultrasound system was developed for the treatment of horses, dogs, and cats. The device's programs are set to parameters that, according to veterinary literature, are designed to ensure a positive therapeutic outcome.
However, the individual parameters, such as the duty cycle and the power in W/cm², are indicative.

Therapeutic instructions for performing ultrasound therapy
Before performing ultrasound treatment with the UltrasoundVet 4000 veterinary ultrasound system, it is essential to know the patient's medical history, any medications currently being used, and a sufficiently accurate diagnosis. During therapy, it is advisable to monitor the patient's response and adjust treatment as needed.
If no significant changes in the animal's condition are observed for 3-4 consecutive days, it is advisable to reconsider the treatment parameters and/or the diagnosis. Ultrasound therapy should not be used in sedated animals, as their feedback is required to adjust the parameters to individual needs if necessary.
Patient preparation for ultrasound treatment
It is recommended to shave the hair in the treatment area before beginning the ultrasound treatment , even if the patient's hair is very short (e.g., greyhound or Doberman). The skin should be cleaned with a non-irritating disinfectant solution before treatment.
Before starting therapy, a sufficient amount of ultrasound gel should be applied to the treatment area. Furthermore, it should be ensured that a layer of gel remains between the scalp and the skin at all times during ultrasound therapy .

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can fractures be treated with metal implants?
Ultrasound is generally used to accelerate fracture healing in humans. Titanium is used for metal implants; the ultrasound is completely reflected by the metal, and there are no negative interactions with the implant. However, a metal other than titanium is often used in animals. Since there are no studies on this, the manufacturer does not recommend treatment. If you know which material was used in the animal, you can develop your own treatment program.
2. Can the small ultrasound head also be operated with 3 MHz programs?
No, the small ultrasound head can only be used with 1 MHz programs.
